Purpose Requires Trust (Abraham's Call)

What would you do if God asked you to leave everything familiar and follow Him without telling you where you were going? That is exactly what He asked of Abraham, and it is still how He often leads His people today.  In Genesis 12, God called Abraham out of Ur of the Chaldeans, a culture that had turned away from Him, and told him simply to go. No destination. No detailed plan. Just a direction and a promise. Through Abraham, God intended to build a people in relationship with Him and ultimately bring the entire world to Jesus Christ.  But Abraham did not obey all at once. His family stopped in Haran and stayed for years before he fully surrendered to the call. His partial obedience delayed the fulfillment of God's promises, but it never canceled them. That is one of the most encouraging truths in this story. God's promises wait for us, even when we are slow to walk in them.  When Abraham finally went all the way, God spoke incredible promises over him. A great nation. A new name. Blessing for all the families of the earth. And in Genesis 15, God took Abraham outside, pointed him to the stars, and told him his descendants would be just as countless, even though he and Sarah had no children at all. Abraham believed God anyway. And God counted that faith as righteousness.  This is the first time in all of Scripture that belief and righteousness appear together, and it set the pattern for how every person since has been made right with God. Not through perfect circumstances. Not through having all the answers. But through trust.  Romans 4 tells us that Abraham did not waver in unbelief. He was fully convinced that what God had promised, God was also able to do. His faith moved before the certainty of the promise arrived. And that is still how God works today.  God does not show us the whole map. He gives us one turn at a time, like an old GPS unit, just enough light for the next step. Psalm 119:105 says His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Not a spotlight for the future. Just enough for right now.  The greatest step of faith is not moving across the country or changing careers. It is trusting in Christ. Just as God called Abraham into a covenant relationship with Him, He is calling each of us into that same relationship today through Jesus.  Purpose is never built on complete information.
