Purpose in the Fall

The story of humanity begins in the Garden of Eden, where God created a perfect dwelling place to walk and commune with His creation. Adam and Eve lived in complete innocence, fully known and loved by God without any shame or fear. This paradise represented God's original design for relationship between Creator and creation.

Everything changed when Satan, a fallen angel cast out of heaven due to pride, approached Eve with a calculated deception. Using the strategy of questioning God's word, misrepresenting His commands, and suggesting there was a better way than obedience, Satan successfully tempted humanity into sin. The consequences were immediate and devastating: shame replaced innocence, fear replaced joy, and blame replaced responsibility. Work became toilsome, relationships became strained, and death entered the world.

Yet even in this moment of judgment, God revealed His plan of redemption. He promised that through the seed of woman, Satan would be defeated. This first gospel promise pointed to Jesus Christ, who would come as both fully God and fully man to restore what was lost. Through His sacrifice on the cross, Jesus provides the only way back to God's presence that every human heart desperately seeks. The story that began in a garden will ultimately end in a new heaven and earth where we will once again dwell in perfect communion with God.
